A must read for all artists!

As a serious painter, I own many books on art in general and the craft of painting in particular. They have been variously useful and sometimes even inspirational, but Art & Fear is worth more to me, than all the rest of my books put together. This book doesn't tell you how to paint or write or compose music or dance. Nor does it trot out the works of other painters, writers, composers, or dancers to serve as inspiration. Instead, it tells me and you and all other aspiring artists how to keep on working at what we love most. What a gem!

This book is a classic - don't listen to the whiners.

(1) read the negative reviews (1-2 stars)
(2) read the book beginning to end - and then
(2) re-read the negative reviews

Even then.... I rarely post a review. This time, I felt compelled. Those who post negative reviews regarding this book are in a class by themselves (thankfully) which I do not encounter often in real life. Decades ago, I actually made a living as an artist - granted, I was living on a shoestring, but through exposure to the work I sold to individuals, my customers would appear. It was all word of mouth. Flash forward: you got to make a living as a single parent (with no other financial or emotional support) and then, to get your child through college. Creative activities are on the back shelf meanwhile. Successful child-rearing: Mission accomplished.

Throughout life, I have struggled in many artistic disciplines to find "my passion." It has been late in life - but I *did* find it! I consider myself very fortunate because of that. This book was listed on the recommended reading list of one of my professors at a community college. Not too far into the book, my jaw dropped. This is not some "feel good about yourself" "keep on going" hippie tome. (I was a hippie once, so I feel some authority to speak from that perspective).

This book really speaks to the deeper blocks and fears that pervade the thinking processes of not only artists, but anyone responding to their passion as a pathway to success. As soon as I finished the book, I started reading it again. And not because I depended on some sort of new-agey "you can do it," but because it really helps in a way that (unfortunately) cannot be articulated. BUT - you really need to know what you're aiming to actually *do* with your time. If your passion is real, this will speak to you. If it is not, ho-hum. (At least that's the only way I can respond to the negative reviews here.)

Really glad I got this book. It helps me in so many ways to recognize my personal creative barriers and (this is going to sound really hokey and new-agey) allowed me to feel like what I experience in creating art is an experience that far more people know about than I had imagined. I'm glad a couple of guys were able to put it to paper.

Guide To Surviving Art

When I first came across this book, it was assigned reading for a painting class. I didn't read it through, probably because at the time I was deep into the euphoria of being an art student and didn't really believe I would ever reach the fear part.
But since then, this book has become an invaluable reminder of the reasons I started making art, and a guide to the many obstacles faced when one decides that art will be an integral part of their life.
I strongly recommend it to aspiring artists, not because I think if will help them immediately, but because when they need it, they have it on their bookshelf already.

This book is a companion voulume in an Air Transport Series, comprised of Air Transportation: Foundations for the 21st Century and Airline Management: Strategies for the 21st Century. Together, these two volumes take readers through the dark ages and monumental losses suffered collectively by the airlines since deregulation, and into the possibility of an economic reformation and the return of profitability. Suggested are trends and strategies, that if followed might lead to a renaissance of consistent profitability for the airlines, stable employment for labor, and continuous, reliable and fairly priced air services for consumers.
It is the purpose of this series to acquaint the reader with the principal elements of air transportation history, airline economics, business, finance, marketing, regulation, and management--to bring all the essentail elements of commercial aviation within the two-volume series. So, I get it, this book was probably written with the young family in mind. Umm, I'm NOT! I love saving and finding better ways to stretch my budget. Come one, who doesn't need a lift to their lifestyle? Jill addresses ways to be more organized and how to save, how to LIVE within our means and make it work, never feel like you're doing without. I've take a couple of great tips from this book and adapted them into my life. I was referred to this book by a friend and really need to remind them I appreciate that they pointed me in this direction :)

About the Author
I write high-octane steampunk fantasy. All my stories have an adventure at the heart with a liberal sprinkling of romance and intrigue thrown into the mix. To confuse things, I also write adventure travel books set firmly on planet Earth. Weird, I know, but it makes me tick. I am a South African, currently living in the UK with my husband, Andrew, my three daughters, a yapping Toy Pomeranian, and a fantastic farm cat called Pixel. When I'm not writing, I'm reading, traveling, herding kids around, taking dogs for walks, and avoiding all cooking.

Totally grabs you and sucks you right in!

This was my first book by Gwynn White and I couldn't put it down. I stayed up all night just to finish it and can't wait to read the rest of the series to find out what happens next. I just adore Lynx and her spunky feisty persona.

African steampunk fantasy at its best!

Rebels Honor offers a great new voice in fantasy with the world building strongly reminiscent of Africa. Lynx is a strong and interesting heroine and the concepts of advanced tech fallen into misuse and largely forgotten is both intriguing and central to the plot. The opening chapters of the book are extremely strong and create a vivid and realistic view of a world divided, with Lynxes clan, village and ostrich hunting jumping out of the page at the reader. In the remainder of the book there is interesting misdirection and misrepresentation of characters which increases the sense of intrigue as well as anticipation - you as the reader know something about each character that the characters collectively do not and it is a heady experience. Axel is a wonderful and straightforward match to Lynx and you find yourself really cheering for him as the story progresses, but he is not as complex and layered as Lukan and this is definitely the character to watch! This was an easy and enjoyable read and comes highly recommended.

Well worth it

This is the first book I have read from Gywnn White and it was good. It's not a typical romantic story, though there is romance in the plot, and bonus points for it not being hard out political either. Timeline wise can almost be compare to the Shannara series from Terry Brooks in that it happens way into the future after a great war threatened the whole of civilisation; but in this case some technology still exits. The main characters are complex and well developed and continue to grow throughout the book and even in the second one which I am currently reading. Lynx, as a heroine, shows that complexity and growth really well as she goes from being a raider in the Norrin tribe to being the crown princess and future empress. She finds out that nothing is as cut and dried as she though and has to revise quite a bit of her idealism and learn to maneuver among all the greys.
