About the Author
JAMIE JENSEN has been immersed in road trip culture from an early age, thanks to a childhood spent drinking drive-in milk shakes and riding roller coasters in Los Angeles -- before they tore everything down. After a three-year stint hitchhiking around the country, making hay in Kansas, sailing boats on the Chesapeake Bay, painting houses in Boston, and living in the storeroom of a Manhattan music studio, he returned to California and earned a degree in Architecture from UC Berkeley, and then moved to England, where he began writing about America. He has since written an authorized biography of the Grateful Dead and contributed to numerous travel books on the USA.

He now lives in Northern California, at the west end of US-50.

Great book

My wife and I used this book to travel the entire Great River Road during our two week honeymoon back in August of 2010. It was the only book we used with GPS and it was almost 100% accurate the entire time. We are from Australia so we had no local knowledge of the States and used the book extensively. But when we came across local details that had changed from the book, it was just a matter of stoppping at a service station or local business, and asking for help. We loved this book and our time travelling on the road so much that we often dream of doing it again. However, if we are going to do another road trip we will certainly choose another title from the collection of road trips by the same author. Thanks for making our honeymoon fun and allowing us to see the real U.S (which is great).

Great Little Book For Great River Road Trip

This was a handy little book (it fit nicely in my pocket) to have along when I followed the GRR from Minneapolis to the tip of Louisiana in October 2011. It is concisely written and may help you decided which side of the river you want to drive on -- which is one feature that makes the GRR such a unique road trip. I spent 8 days on the GRR and averaged a little over 200 miles a day and consulted the book all the time. I found myself quite impressed by how much info was passed on within the pages of such a compact book. I plan on following the road north this summer to the headwaters of the mighty Mississippi and I'll take the book with me once again.

A fun read full of good ideas

I was hoping for something with a little more attention to maps, or specific directions to follow the river road. Some sections were very descriptive, but some of the sections were not as easy to follow. The book does offer a lot of ideas for fun things to stop and see. I would recommend it, just make sure you get a good travel plan or map as well.

My first book by this author and I loved it!

WOW! I loved it. I felt like she took every idea out of my head of what I wanted to read in that moment and wrapped it up in this one book. One of the things that drives me the craziest when I read a book with a character that is in a wheelchair is when the character finds a hot man and gets an insta-cure and is out of the chair by the end of the book. I find it insulting when I read books where the author writes it as if the character is unable to have a fulfilling life while they're in the chair but after said magic cure...all of their obstacles pull a Houdini and poof into thin air and they're suddenly a happily content person simply because their legs work. You won't find any insta-cures in this gem. Yes, there are insecurities but you don't get the impression that he is wallowing in self pity. I loved how the other MC didn't treat him with kid gloves due to the wheelchair. He didn't so much concentrate on what his partner couldn't do but modified things to fit what he COULD do.

Excellent and Sexy!!

Incredible! This was a slow burn story for me, but totally worth the intense feelings it stirred up. Deacon was an incredibly sexy Dom who was definitely a take charge kind of guy who gets what he wants, and he wants Kade. Kade is a sweet and loving Sub who was seriously hurt in a gay bashing that left him in a wheelchair. Great book of Deacon showing Kade he was worth and deserved to be taken care of and loved by him.

Kade loved the bdsm lifestyle, but didn't think he would have a chance again. Being in a wheelchair wasn't practical for that.
But that was until he met Deacon. And Deacon usually got his way, and he wanted Kade...

I Love the Church!

I've read through this book a number of times, but it's now so full of highlights that it's practically unreadable - hence the Kindle edition! In these days of 'confusion' about what the Christian church is, this book by a lifelong Anglican 'pastor and shepherd' - and a highly respected theologian - is well worth a read; especially if you're involved in leading a new church, or one which needs a breath of fresh air. It's written out of a genuine love for the church of Jesus, and is simple and practical too.

In 1940 thousands of Jews were trying to flee Nazi persecution in Europe. This is the little-known story of a group of 1,600 Jewish refugees who, having escaped from Nazi-occupied Europe, were refused entry into Palestine by the British in 1940 because they were considered OillegalO immigrants. Their deportation after landing in the Promised Land, Eretz Israel, was unique. As a deterrent to others, they were deported to Mauritius, a remote island in the Indian Ocean. They were detained in a Mauritian prison until the end of the war and were deprived of all basic human rights_even that of family life. This story sheds light on the British governmentOs lack of understanding of the critical problem of Jewish refugees at that time.

A must read for South African Jews and others interested in obscure Jewish history.

I was so lucky to be part of the 50th reunion in Maurius of the few survivors who could travel, their families and those who were part of the island history during that period as I happened to be working there at the time (around 1997/8). What stunned me is that I grew up in South Africa, which had a strong Jewish community yet, because of th German sympathizers in South Africa, not much was said or known except by a select.few. Even thirty plus years after their release, during which many died of disease although spared by the gas chambers in Europe, most South African Jews are unaware of this story and what happened right on our doorstep. Thank God for the Mauritian people whose hospitality is superb, and to those who took care of, cared for and sympathized with the Jewish exiles until after the war. Today Mauritius cares for the graves and continues the memory of those who were interned there in less than desirable conditions.

It's refreshing to see a book on 100 ADS Design Examples that adopts a practical hands on approach through the use of computer simulation to make the subject come alive on screen. It's the same approach used by RF and microwave design engineers to develop products these days. Learning with hands-on computer simulation also develops better engineering intuition than reading an old-fashion textbook laden with math equations. Gorgeous book with excellent instructions for developing quick, loose watercolor skills

This beautiful, inspirational book is exactly what I've been looking for! I'm not a journaling person, but I became intrigued by watercolor sketching after reading several Cloth Paper Scissors magazine articles by various contributors. I really liked the idea of small studies that captured the essence of whatever you're painting without trying to make it absolutely realistic. My detail-oriented, perfectionist nature gets in the way of me loosening up and just enjoying the freedom of creating simple art for my own pleasure so learning to work "loose" with watercolors in small sketchbooks is something I want to do.

About three weeks ago, I got the ebook version of this book and Gina's "No Excuses Art Journaling," as well as Gina's two videos in a bundle from Interweave, and thoroughly enjoyed them. I even started collecting pictures from magazines as both books and videos recommended, but I just don't have the right types of magazines to get a lot of images I'd like to paint.

As much as I enjoyed the ebook version, for me, this book is best enjoyed in paper form. I didn't really appreciate everything that's in it until my paper copy arrived yesterday. All I can say is, "Wow!" I am looking forward to working through the exercises using my Koi 24-color travel watercolor kit and waterbrushes because those are my tools of choice. The entire book is useful and all the exercises look like they will be fun to do.

The best part of this book for me is the inspiration section. Each group of four pages includes a page of inspirational words, possible subjects, poetry, and quotes on the first lefthand page. There's an image (approximately 5 x 7) on the righthand page and a suggested color palette with color names in Gina's favorite paints. On the next pair of pages are an ink drawing of the photo subject on the left page and a watercolor version on the right page. The subjects include animals, birds, travel/landscape, and nature images. Your painting doesn't have to look exactly like Gina's, but if you get stuck or if you are trying to develop you interpretation skills, you can look at the inspiration photo and Gina's drawings and paintings to see what she did.

I have had trouble finding magazine pictures that I wanted to paint, so having these 13 carefully-selected images to work from, as well as Gina's interpretations, will give me lots of practice images that I can use to start developing my skills.

Gina's painting style really appeals to me because it lends itself to small images that can be completed in a short time, which is exactly what I want to learn to do.

This is a book that covers painting techniques for sketching and journaling. If you are looking for something really technical, this is not the book for you. If you want a book that teaches you techniques so that you can relax and enjoy playing with shapes and colors and won't take you hours and days to complete, this is a great book. It even encourages those who aren't comfortable with drawing to trace images to color, so you don't even have to have good drawing skills to enjoy using water colors.

I purchased this book for my 12 year old daughter. She wanted to get into water painting. She likes the book very much. Easy to follow instructions and tips. It's an easy to follow

I'm so excited! I got this book in the mail yesterday (thank you, Amazon!) and already have been diving in and loving it!
I am an acrylic artist and I struggle big time with water color. But now, even though I've only gotten to page 38, I'm already playing with my water color set, discovering new techniques, and an ease with my brush that I didn't have before.
It's an easy to follow, beautifully illustrated workbook for learners like me!

Zakaria, the author of this very readable book, is an intelligent and informed person. He makes important and very cogent arguments for the necessity, advantages and results of a liberal education--i.e. informed citizens better prepared to vote and take actions for society, people with an ability to clearly analyze problems, proposals, statements, etc., people exposed to writings and discussions on ethical behavior, people with rounded personalities able to understand both sides of an argument and their consequences. In short. the creation of citizens with multiple knowledge and skills who are absolutely necessary for the continued functioning of a democratic and just society.
