About the Author
John Amodeo, Ph.D., MFT, is the author of The Authentic Heart: An Eightfold Path to Midlife Love (John Wiley & Sons, 2001); Love & Betrayal (Ballantine Books: 1994); and co-author of Being Intimate (Penguin Books, 1986). Dr. Amodeo holds graduate degrees in both Clinical and Transpersonal Psychology. He has been a practicing psychotherapist for over twenty years, and has offices in San Francisco, San Rafael, and Sonoma County. Dr. Amodeo was a writer and contributing editor for Yoga Journal for ten years. He has spoken throughout the country on love and relationships, and has been featured on national television and radio programs that include CNN, CNBC, Donahue, and New Dimensions Radio. He has been interviewed or contributed articles to publications that include The Chicago Tribune, The Dallas Morning News, and The Toronto Sun. He has led workshops at centers such as Esalen Institute, The Omega Institute, and The New York Open Center. the heart of the matter

The best relationship I ever had with a woman ended abruptly when she found someone new. Our relationship had been built on trust and openness, so much so that she once said she "never had to wear a mask" when we were together. But when it ended she wouldn't talk to me. I desperately needed to know the how and the why. For almost a year I spun my wheels trying to understand what had happened, why I felt so awful. I counseled, I talked to friends, I read the books in my library's self-help section. All these things were fine, they all had some insights, except nothing addressed the heart of my pain.
And then I came to this book in the stacks. It is beautifully written. It is logical and sensible. It shows a deep understanding of this most important of all things in our lives. And it went straight to the core of my heartbreak. Every page had a sentence or paragraph or concept that was stunning. It took me a month to read half the book, because I could not read more than a few pages before I had to put it down and think about it. I can't praise a book more than that. Finally the healing could start for me. If that wasn't enough, there is also some how-to guidance for minimizing the chances of betrayal in the future. I am still thinking through all that but it feels right. This book is a one-of-a-kind for me.

A healing balm in a time of need.

Betrayal is one of the most painful and difficult experiences in any relationship. It's so charged that many stay victimized by their own hurt and anger for many years. John Amodeo's excellent book addresses the issues of betrayal in depth and with great sensitivity and intelligence. First he gives us the gift of understanding and then shows us practical steps we can take to resolve our feelings and enter into new relationships freshly, with confidence and awareness.
Like John's earlier book, Being Intimate, Love and Betrayal will deepen your relationships, but just as important will deepen your contact with your self. Take the time to read John's books. They're a healing balm in a time of need.

Wonderful, Wonderful!

Being betrayed by someone we love and trust is a devastating thing. The author of this book discusses his clinical experiences and the process involved when healing from an experience of betrayal. Just the fact that the author explains things in a caring and gentle manner makes this book very therapeutic to read. But it's not only just that. This book gives people with experiences of betrayal hope and direction. If you are struggling with experiences of betrayal, I'd definitely recommend this book. Another book that has helped me considerably on this topic is "The Ever-Transcending Spirit" by Toru Sato. It is an unbelievably good book that explains many psychological things but one of them is the coping and recovery process of betrayal and loss. If you are trying to move on from an experience of betrayal, these books are both very very helpful.

About the Author
Award-winning journalist David Folkenflik has been NPR’s media correspondent since 2004. He previously covered media and politics for the Baltimore Sun and edited the 2011 book Page One: Inside The New York Times and the Future of Journalism. He has covered Murdoch and News Corp extensively and has been a frequent commentator on the hacking scandal in both the US and the UK. Folkenflik lives with his wife, the radio producer Jesse Baker, and their daughter in New York City.

Extraordinarily fine piece of work

This is a very engrossing narrative that is informative, sobering, and chilling. The book reflects the author's own reporting over many years on the aggressive Murdoch news/entertainment empire as well as research done specifically for the book. It has an extensive bibliography and has meticulously annotated page notes documenting sources that occupy about a fourth of the entire book. There is also a detailed index that works with the Kindle.

This reader was aware of some of the excesses of the news media of Murdoch's empire, both in the US and the UK. However he did appreciate the depth of the depravity that is documented in detail by this book for activities in the UK that ultimately resulted in the closing of News of the World in England, after 168 years of publishing.
* Widespread hacking of telephone voicemail boxes (thousands) to gain tidbits for publishing. The targets ranged from royalty like Prince Charles, close relatives of former prime ministers, MPs, celebrities like Hugh Grant, to more ordinary people: people who had been killed in the 2005 bus and subway bombings, British soldiers killed in Afghanistan or Iraq, and during the police hunt the phone 13 year old girl who had been murdered.
* Scotland Yard kept and ignored extensive documentation of hacking activity.
* Bribing the police to gain confidential information on people's whereabouts or phone numbers to hack.
* Blackmailing a person into giving interviews.
* Following MP members of investigative committees by private investigators who were looking for dirt.
* Tit-for-tat or undue influence with politicians at the highest levels of the UK government.

Unsavory activities in the US had some surprises, but they are not on the scale of what happened in the UK.
* Setting up a journalist they did not like with a false "tip".
* Planting numerous phony "reviews" or comments by their own employees against people or organizations they did not like.
* Claims that Obama had studied at a Wahhabist madrassa and that was not bone in the US.
* Large political contributions in 2010 elections blur line between balanced news coverage and political advocacy.
* Pressuring Romney to choose Ryan as his running mate in 2012.
* Pressuring Christie to support Romney.

There is an interesting and generally favorable discussion of the Wall Street Journal's delicate situation and its actions of preserving its reputation for independence after being taken over by Murdoch.

There is no formal epilogue, but much of the last chapter serves that role:

One of the ironies is a description of some consequences of journalism run amok, but which do not come immediately to mind while reading the book as a whole: A bedrock of both British and US American culture is a free press. That freedom allowed Murdoch's empire grow and flourish. However, once the astounding excesses of that empire become known, pressures can arise to deal with the abuse with the heavy hand of law, compromising that bedrock for everyone. This realization reinforces the need to understand that a free press must also be responsible to considerations above monetary gains or advantages of influence.

This message is coupled with the admonition that we as a people share in the responsibility for the abuses:
"Murdoch similarly could not have accumulated his fortunes without our help. We are all, as consumers of media, involved and even responsible for the creation of Murdoch's World ---those of us who pick up his tabloids at the newsstand, enjoy the cable news wars, subscribe to his prestigious papers, watch a ballgame on TV, buy tickets to a movie, even those of us who are News Corp investors through pension funds or mutual funds. We make up the market that he sought to create and feed. He played us, as much as he played everyone else. And we have rewarded him handsomely for it."
This statement appearing near the end of the book reflects on Murdoch's attitude expressed early in the book. In a curious twist of word meanings, Murdoch said that what he did was in the public interest, because people are interested in reading it.

There is an interesting change of mood in the denouement. Up to this point, there has been an edge on the narrative, which was a necessary consequence of the nature of the tawdry events that were described. Here, however, there is a gentleness that visits the pages, exhibiting some empathy for many of the characters, including Rupert Murdoch himself. This whole story is not unlike a Greek tragedy in which the fatal flaws of the principals eventually take their toll.

This book is an extraordinarily fine piece of work.

On a technical note, the extensive page notes of the book are difficult to use in the Kindle format, because of the necessity to jump back and forth. In fact, one does not even know when to jump while reading the main text, because the page notes are organized around page numbers that are irrelevant in the Kindle format. This is a situation for which the hard copy is much better suited. However, in the Kindle format, having once read the book, one can just start reading the page notes and use the links to the appropriate text, and use the Back button to return to the page notes. Alternatively, one can do this on a chapter by chapter basis while reading.

There are so many different characters and branches of the Murdoch empire that it is a little difficult to keep track of them all during the reading. A table of the people, the business, and their connections would have been useful. A serious reader might be like to assemble such a table as the reading proceeds.

A valuable accounting of Rupert Murdoch's career of subverting the foundations of democracy and civilisation. The book shows how powerless the institutions of democracies are to resist the corrupting influence of power-mad media tycoons like Murdoch. Where are the checks and balances against such power? What is to prevent another power-mad media tycoon from taking over where Murdoch left off and finishing off democracy once and for all. Though we all probably agree that democracy cannot survive without an informed and educated populace, what if it is not in the interests of the media owners to have an informed populace? What if it is in their interests instead to systematically misinform the populace? Who is going to stop them? Who can silence Murdoch's army of shouting bullies like OReilly and Hannity? The book makes one think about the vulnerability of democracy to media demagoguery and its uncertain future.

This is a very insightful book as to what news stations do to promote their own agenda. They will stop at nothing to get their version of the news out to the people...I highly recommend this book!!!!

Gentlemen, start your calculators!

The thing I like about this book, is how Dr. Raymer de-mystifies the process of analyzing aircraft design. The process as he lays it out, is totally different from how I had always approached it.
That said, the formulas quickly left me in the weeds. The nice thing about that was how well he explained the point of the formula, so I can figure them out eventually. Plus, he gives you the common value derived from the formula. Since we're looking at common homebuilt designs, the normal range of values will generate designs with reasonably predictable performance characteristics.
I especially liked how Raymer keeps the design open to unusual configurations. pusher/tractor, canard, asymmetric, are all fair game, as long as the formulas and ratios work out. That really frees the designer to break out of the boxes that seem to constrain light plane design these days.
When you talk to aircraft builders, there are often engineer types who delight in telling the amatuers how unsafe and impractical every new idea is. Raymer's book let's you find that out for yourself, without the condescension. It also shows you just how close to practical the idea is....maybe just a little tweek is all an idea needs to be brilliant.

Concise yet comprehensive

Having done similar work years ago in my early career, I find this book to be a great balance of comprehensive (hitting the key topics) while also being concise (my college text books take up far more space). I enjoyed his style of writing. It was conversational, keeping it light where it could be, and serious where it must be. I also agree with his frequent advice; remember that this is preliminary work, with lots of detailed analyses and testing and caution to follow. Nicely done.

Superb!

I teach aerodynamics and always end the course with a few hours on airplane design. This book is superb, written by a very knowledgeable fellow in a simple, straightforward fashion. His other book is a reference in the field, much more advanced and technical, though.

Also recomended for pilots are the three books by Darrol Stinton. Very detailed, very well explained and as deep as you want without going into messy, messy mathematical stuff. Just plain serious plane talk.

Amazing drawings and a soul-capturing plot

I have been a fan of Joe for so long now and I was extremely happy to know that he was putting out his first graphic novel. Upon receiving this novel, I was extremely surprised yet intrigued by the general summary and wondrous cover artwork. The thing is once I started reading I couldn't put it down. This genre of graphic novels is not what I usually go for but this one is an exception. Joe's graphic novel is simply inspiring. It is filled with deep thoughts that help convey to young readers that they will always be loved by someone. All of the longtime Sugglets and even those new subscribers will definitely be able to notice the small details of Evie's life that corresponds to Joe's life. Just read and find out what. Overall, I highly recommend this to all those who are in need of a comforting hand or even those seeking a thrill in life.

I love graphic novels and I had no clue what this book was going to be about. I mainly bought it because it was written by Joe Sugg. After I read it, I thought it was AMAZING, if you are a computer nerd, outcast, or just plain wierd, this is the graphic novel for you! Highly recommend this to anyone who is thinking of getting it!

Growing up as a African-America Christian; throughout my childhood years in sunday school and church I wondered why everyone in the bible was white. I wondered why in sunday school our bible coloring lessons we always needed a white or yellow crayon and not a brown crayon. I wondered why the pastor always called us "Gentiles". I remember watching the "Ten Commandments" and seeing a white Moses and white Israelites. "Hebrews to Negroes" has shaken the foundation of everything I have been taught for 40 years. I always felt inside that black people in America were "God's Chosen People" from reading the Bible, especially in Deuteronomy 28:16-68. In Deuteronomy 28 it describes the Curses of Israel and it only fits what blacks have gone through for what seems to be an eternity. Daniel 9:9-15 proves that the Children of Israel DID in fact disobey Gods commandments. Therefore they STILL should be going through the Curses of Israel. This Book proves without a shadow of a doubt that the REAL biblical Israelites were Black (People of Color) and not the European Ashkenazi or European Sephardic Jews we see today in America, Europe and Israel. There is no way that Black Jews make up 1% of all the Jews worldwide. Thank you so much for putting this book out. This book HANDS DOWN lays to rest all those (European Jews, Catholics, Muslims) who teach and believe that real Jews are white. This book put chills in my spine and made me realize how much Black America has been tricked and deceived. After reading this book, I see now why It says "Wake up Black America". I am more awake now then ever and I will spread the word to others now that I have read this book.

It's a Good wake up call

This book a good read of someone who has come to knowledge about the truth of an identity, and the history that has made us forget. It is a book that no doubt took a considerable amount of time to complete, and which is well written and thought out. It is a blend of a few different styles; Opinion, Persuasion, and Historical accounts with analysis. It contains the Authors personal beliefs, which make it both compelling, and honestly, challenging to read if you don't accept the same basic premises of faith.

For those of you who do not take the New Testament in a high regard, as you question the validity of all of it or most of it, this book is not entirely for you. However, if you want to understand the perspective of those who accept a Messianic return, and you want to know the evidences provided for faith in the concept, then this book will enlighten you.

I respect the brother for his opinions and views. I disagree with many of the assertions, mostly based on the ideology of the Christ/Messiah and the return, and those statements that are made as a matter of fact when they are opinion. But in general, I appreciated the historical analysis, and the thought that it took to write the book.

I believe that this is a good book for those that are just now coming to knowledge, and those that want to further understand the role of Israelites today. It is most specifically geared to those who are awakening from a christian perspective, and are searching for an identity. Personally, I think that the book maintains a certain level of acceptance of church doctrine promoted by the oppressors, however it is an obvious step in the right direction. I would absolutely invite the author to dinner to discuss the entirety of our differences, as I can tell that the information is well researched and reflected upon.

As with any presentation of knowledge, we must question everything we all say and hold as fact, and I would impress upon the readers to verify the information presented here. I think that the best way forward in the community, is critical inquiry, and diligent study.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and recommend this book to anyone interested in learning about our history as a people, our current state, and where we are headed if we don't collectively change our ways to be obedient to God. I only hope more people become more interested in these topics and make changes in their lives and in those of their children. Shalom and God bless!

About the Author
Katherine L. Adams is Professor of Speech Communication at California State University, Fresno, where she received a Meritorious Promise and Performance award in 1989. She has served as their Graduate Coordinator since 1989. She received her Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Utah under the direction of B. Aubrey Fisher. She has authored four instructor’s manuals in interpersonal and small group communication and most recently, this group communication book with Gloria Galanes. She has published articles in the areas of conversational analysis and interpersonal communication. Currently she is an associate editor for Communication Reports and The Western Journal of Communication. She participates, at all levels, in the Western States Communication Association and Speech Communication Association and teaches in the areas of interpersonal communication, communication theory, small group communication, and research methods.

Gloria J. Galanes is Associate Professor of Communication and Mass Media at Southwest Missouri St. University and has received the University’s Faculty Excellence in Teaching and the Outstanding Graduate Faculty Member awards.

Nothing against Amazon for renting, but the authors made pure fire kindle. I just wish I had a fireplace, and that it wasn't a rental.
